Art Basel Paris 2026: Stay on the Left Bank at the Heart of Art Week

Every October, Paris becomes the world capital of contemporary art. Collectors, gallerists, curators and art lovers converge on the Grand Palais for Art Basel Paris, and the whole city moves to the rhythm of openings. To make the most of the week, where you stay matters. At Hôtel Dame des Arts, in the heart of the 6th arrondissement, you sleep between the galleries of Saint-Germain-des-Prés and the banks of the Seine, in a place where art is already part of the setting.

Art Basel Paris 2026: Dates, Venue and Programme

Art Basel Paris takes place from 23 to 25 October 2026 at the Grand Palais, preceded by two days for professionals and invited guests on 21 and 22 October. Successor to FIAC, the fair launched in 2022 as Paris+ par Art Basel, before moving beneath the glass roof of the renovated Grand Palais.

This edition, the first under director Karim Crippa, will bring together more than 200 galleries from over 40 countries, across several sectors:

•  Galleries, the heart of the fair, with more than 180 modern, post-war and contemporary dealers;

•  Emergence, solo presentations by emerging artists on the Grand Palais balconies;

•  Premise, sharper, research-led curatorial projects.

Around the fair, a public programme spreads across the city: talks at the Grand Palais, outdoor installations and exhibitions at major Paris institutions. Tickets and the full programme are on Art Basel's official website.

Why Stay at Hôtel Dame des Arts During Art Basel

Staying on the Left Bank during Art Basel means choosing a neighbourhood where art is part of everyday life. Hôtel Dame des Arts is at 4 rue Danton, a 5-minute walk from Saint-Michel Notre-Dame station. The Grand Palais is around 35 minutes away on foot along the Seine, or a few stops on the RER C to Invalides, then across the Pont Alexandre III.

Inside, the hotel extends the fair experience. More than 70 works by artists linked to Saint-Germain, including photographs, sculptures, drawings and prints, hang on the walls, and each of the 109 rooms and suites has its own selection. The interiors by Raphaël Navot favour natural materials, wood and stone, and organic lines. Sleeping in an art gallery takes on its full meaning here.

A third of the rooms have a balcony, and 17 look out over the Eiffel Tower: a fine way to start the day with Paris as a backdrop. Discover our rooms and suites.

The Off Circuit: Saint-Germain-des-Prés Galleries

During Art Basel week, Paris galleries unveil their strongest shows. From the hotel, the Saint-Germain-des-Prés gallery circuit is an easy walk, all within 10 minutes:

•  Rue de Seine, the historic gallery street of the Left Bank, spanning modern, contemporary and tribal art;

•  Rue Mazarine, more intimate, mixing galleries, bookshops and hidden addresses;

•  Rue des Beaux-Arts, beside the École des Beaux-Arts, where Galerie Claude Bernard has shown major painters and sculptors for decades.

A few streets away, Galerie Kamel Mennour on rue Saint-André-des-Arts and Galerie Kreo, devoted to contemporary design on rue Dauphine, round out the walk. To go further, follow our 48-hour art itinerary through the Latin Quarter.

Between galleries, pause at the École des Beaux-Arts on rue Bonaparte, where the artists of tomorrow have trained since the 19th century, then head for the river: from the Pont des Arts, the view of the Louvre and the Institut de France is a reminder that in Paris, art is also lived in the open air.

Make a Night of It: Rooftop and Dinner at Pimpan

After a day at the Grand Palais, the evening continues at the hotel. On the 9th floor, the rooftop offers 360° views over Paris, from the Eiffel Tower to the Panthéon, Notre-Dame and Montmartre: the perfect spot for a signature cocktail among collectors. The rooftop cocktail bar is open to the public, with reservations recommended.

On the ground floor, Pimpan, Chef Clément Courtemanche's restaurant, serves seasonal French cuisine made for sharing, with a five-act tasting menu in the evening. At weekends, brunch is served from 12pm to 3pm, ideal before a final visit to the fair on Sunday. More about Pimpan.
